Welcome to you again to another of my Top 100 weight loss tips. This post is tip number 18 in the series to help you lose weight. Please not that this is an original article written for weightlossgo.com and is copyright protected. Ok, so now let’s move on to what this post is all about and how going to bed early and getting up early is going to help you to lose weight!

One of the things that staying up late at night is well know for is the urge to eat late at night. Its also a well known fact that if you eat too close to going to bed, the food sits on your stomach for much longer and not only causes you a restless night’s sleep, but will add to your waistline. That last point is because when you are asleep, your digestive function is similarly at rest and whatever is in your stomach is not getting digested properly. The worst part is that if it contains a lot of sugary calories (as most late night snacks tend to do), then those sugars are not getting converted to energy (because you’re not using any) so it all goes to fat cells for storage. Around your waist if you’re a man and around your hips if you’re a woman.

Think cellulite ladies!

So how do you stop yourself eating late at night? Easy.

Going to bed earlier means you’re not up sitting in front of the TV watching all those late nigh ads for tasty snacks and craving them. Go to bed early and read a book. You not only do you waistline a favor by avoiding all those extra late night calories, but you also feed your brain rather than turning it to mush with all that TV!

Sleep and weight loss are closely related, so by getting plenty of the one, you’ll be helping yourself to achieve the other!

It doesn’t matter if think you are a night person, or whatever you’ve made yourself believe. Change into a morning person. You can do it, because humans, like many animals (not counting nocturnal ones) are programmed to sleep at night and be awake during the day. This night person nonsense is something invented by the media to keep people sitting in front of late night TV. So they can sell you a bunch of garbage you don’t need because that’s when you’re most susceptible to the ads.

But when you go to bed early, meaning before midnight and preferably before 11pm, you’re not going to be thinking about food all night. The bonus to getting up early, as long as you got to bed early, is that you have a head start on your day. It gives you time to have an early morning workout or run or whatever exercise you like to do before breakfast. Then you can eat a relatively big breakfast (as long as its healthy and not composed of fried stuff, or sweet pancakes and maple syrup!) and this is how to increase metabolism as it will will jump start into high gear earlier in the day. This will set you up for a more energetic, weight losing day, rather than a sluggish, weight gaining day had you gone to bed late and got up late.

Remember the old saying: “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” is based in fact!
