Why is BistroMD so successful with dieters?

What is BistroMD?

First of all, I'll include in this BistroMD review brief description of just exactly what this program is and the kind of weight loss diets they provide for their customers.

If you need a dieting solution that frees you from having to prepare and cook food but you like to eat gourmet meals that taste great and are NOT processed as with some other diet delivery companies, then you will be interested in the great alternative of receiving their special meals delivered to your home.

It is all about eating healthily while losing weight through a calorie controlled diet that is made specifically for people who simply do not have the time to cook their own nutritious and tasty meals but want to eat well.

How Does BistroMD Work?

The plan is very simple to follow and even easier for people to get on board with with an easy ordering system that can be done online via their website or over the phone if you prefer this method of ordering.

It is a good idea to visit the BistroMD website first to see all the meal plans that are available so you can choose the one that you prefer. Then you can customize it to leave out any meals you particularly do not want to eat, or things you can't eat due to health issues or religious preferences.

The diet food plan that lasts for one week is then delivered to your door. This contains all the meals you will need for that week, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course a week is not long enough for a diet to really get working, so you will need to set up a repeat order to endure you get an uninterrupted supply of food, week by week.

The menu is rotated each week so that you don't eat the same food every week. This keeps the interest and excitement buzzing and motivates you to stick with the diet so that you will lose the maximum amount of weight.

BistroMD Meal Plans

There are four plans that are all customizable to your own tastes and needs.

Instead of providing diet plans for specific groups as do some other diet food delivery companies, Bistro M.D. simply provides four individually priced set plans that cover either a full seven day menu with or without snacks and a five day menu with or without snacks. Each plan is priced accordingly and represents different dieting needs for different people.

For those who work long hours all week but have their weekends free where they would prefer to either cook their own food or eat out on a restaurant, effectively giving themselves a short "vacation" from their diet while being sensible about what they eat on their "days off", the five day plans are perfect. They provide you with all your meals so that you do not have to concern yourself with keeping to a diet during the working week.

For those who want a more full-on solution, the seven day plans fulfill these needs perfectly by providing all your meals for every day of the week.

You just decide whether you want to include snacks with the meals or not. But remember that if you opt to not have their low calorie snacks, you must be very careful what you eat between meals if you must eat anything because many commercial snack contain lots of hidden calories that can effectively derail your diet.

The Negative Side

No diet plan is perfect and there will be some issues that some people come up against that may detract from the diet plan they choose. In the case of this program, the main downsides are:

BistroMD Cost: the cheapest plan is around $130 a week and that only covers five days of diet meals with you needing to prepare and cook your own meals at the weekends. The full 7 day plan starts at around $160 per week without additional snacks rising to $180 per week with snacks (2012 prices).

Meal Size: This is a common problem with diet food delivery plans where people see the meal sizes or portions as being smaller than they expected to get. This is actually normal and designed that way to educate your stomach to accept less food. Think about it.

You want to lose weight, right? You are not going to lose it by eating large meals, unless you are working out like a bodybuilder every day for several hours in the gym or running 10 miles a day. So your other option is to eat less and these meals teach you to get used to eating less.

Meal Quality: Of all the home delivery companies that provide meals that are delivered to your home, Bistro M.D. provides some of the best quality meals. They are prepared and cooked by their own in-house gourmet chefs and then frozen, packaged and shipped to your home the same day. The downside to this is that frozen meals do lose some of their quality when thawed and re-heated.

You will notice this whenever you have had to re-heat a meal you made yourself. It never tastes quite as good as it did when it was fresh cooked and served up. It is not a fault of the cooking and healthy meal preparation process, just a consequence of not being able to eat straight form the kitchen.

Mango says:

I just saw this review and felt I had to write in. I was on the BistroMD diet about six months ago and stayed with it for 8 weeks in total. I used the 7 day plan with snacks cause I can't cook to save my life and I'm also pretty lazy too! I was really happy with the food and it is as good as they say it is. I thought the service was first rate and they always delivered on time, so I have to be all positive here with no complaints about any aspect of it.

I didn't find the cost a problem, seen as I was already spending well over 100 bucks a week on mostly junk food anyway. When you take that off the cost of the diet, it works out to be pretty cheap really.

I lost weight too -- 19 pounds to be exact from the day I started to the end of the diet. I didn't have a problem with the meals being smaller than I was used to and it taught me I didn't have to load so much food on my plate anymore, so six months on, I haven't put on any weight. I'm real glad I chose this diet cause of the quality of the food I never needed to stray off the diet. I'd recommend it to anyone!

Waist says:

I think the reason most of these programs work is simply because they help you cut your calories and you dont really pay attention to how much fewer calories you are eating. $130 per week is a little bit too much for me. Thats over 500 per month in food for one person. Thanks for the information.

Rod says:

I had a good experience with BistroMD last year and stayed on their diet for two months, losing 18 pounds overall. That was my target and I was so glad when I reached it I went out to celebrate with my family. I wanted to eat a big meal of ribs and all the extras, but when I got to the restaurant, I looked at all the food in front of me and just picked at it. I have never eaten a big meal or one full of junk since.

I believe I am cured of my need to overeat or to eat garbage like I used to! Its all thanks to this program and for that I am very, very grateful. I would recommend it to anyone cause the food really is very good.

Walker says:

I tried the BistroMD diet last year for a total of six weeks and can truly say that it made a huge difference to me. I lost weight, for sure! I wanted to lose 20 pounds and had tried other diets before with no luck, but this one had something that just clicked with me. I lost 24 pounds in total in those 6 weeks and I enjoyed every meal they sent me. I was even considering going for longer, but I guess common sense was telling me that I now knew what I had to do to keep this weight. I made sure I eat pretty much the same as I was getting from Bistro like portion size as well as healthy stuff and to this day I have not gained an ounce! Great diet, if a little more costly than some of the others, it was worth every cent!

Dianne says:

I spent just over three months on the BistroMD diet in the fall of last year because I had a load of weight to lose and at the same time I didn't want to eat bland food. I already tried Nutrisystem before that but I couldn't get on with the processed meals so I made the switch to Bistro. The food is way better even if its more expensive. For me it was worth every cent cause I lost a total of 46 pounds in that time. It got me back to looking as slim as I was in my 20s and made me feel years younger than my real age, which is 42.

I also got on an exercise program and worked up to doing an hour of aerobics each day, but it took over a month to get to that level. I still do the exercises every day and I watch what I eat now, although its not as strict as while on the Bistro diet. I have not gained any weight since, so to anyone out there who thinks they can't do it -- you can do it if you really get focused and walk the walk instead of just talk the talk!

Charles says:

I've been sitting on the fence over which diet to go for, you know like Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig and all the others. Hadn't even considered BistroMD as a realistic option though. After reading your review and then heading over to their site to check it out, I found its not as expensive as I thought it would be considering the high quality meals that you talked about. In fact, I am seriously leaning towards Bistro as my first choice. Cost is not so important to me as getting results. Its no use paying for a cheap diet that doesn't work! Thanks for the review :-)

TypeA says:

I've tried JC in the past and found the cost to be similar to that of BistroMD however, the Bistro food is SO much better quality and tasting and I feel the portions are larger than JC.

The thing that drew me to Bistro was 1) a friend of mine was on week 3 and having great success and stated the food was "delish" and 2)the sodium content, it's well under the daily requirement as the food is prepared fresh and frozen (unlike the mass production foods which are loaded with sodium for a long shelf life).

I'm only on day four but can definitely tell I will be able to stick with the program for the 8-12 weeks I intend. The program is a great way to get back to proper portion sizes (as others have stated) as well as a variety of foods.

Try a week and see for yourself!

Nic says:

Well on one hand it's great to buy your meals so you are sure that you are eating what you are supposed to. But on the other hand, you don't learn how to cook healthy and you don't eat fresh and not processed food. Fresh meals are always best to enjoy the foods nutrients.

Tried Them All says:

I've tried them all! First Jenny. that was expensive b/c besides their food, you still had to buy groceries like dairy, fruits and veggies! I lost but it took way too much driving around and planning.

Then I tried Nutrisystem b/c it was on sale at QVC. That was a big JOKE! I couldn't understand how I could eat ready made spaghetti and steak out of a box that was on the shelf. YUCK

Last year I convinced myself that Medifast was the thing. I lost 30 lbs in 3 months and got off the program was high and free and gained 40 lbs a year later! Medifast was hard b/c it was all powders and cereal and oatmeal and soups and shakes and it wasn't "real" food to me. I couldn't kid myself any longer!

I've been on BistroMD for 1 week and 5 days and have lost 5 lbs. I LOVE the food. I LOVE the convenience. I find time to actually eat my food and THEN cook for the family. Before it used to be get home from work, take kids to sports, grab fast food,go home, then sleep. I had time for nothing. At least now I have time to plan their meals for the week and not have to worry if I should eat what they eat. My food is already waiting for me at home.

I bet if i start my daily walks the lbs should drop more. I even went to a casino buffet last week and made really good choices. filled up on salad and had a "bite" of everything else I wanted to try and still topped it off with a scoop of mocha almond fudge ice cream.

I think that sticking to this diet will be the thing to do.
