Detox Diet Plan

The Top 100 Weight Loss Tips continues to march on with article 55 in this series.

With the aim to bring you a full set of one hundred unique and useful articles designed to help you to lose weight, I'm carrying on with another great article.

This post is focused on the kind of diet known as the detox diet plan, which is basically a good strategy to rid the body of unwanted toxins to allow it to thrive in a heathy state.

Now, this idea is something that is gaining ever more popularity as detoxes are seen as the the way to improve your health.

They are also good for kick starting a diet and re-kindling the motivation needed to see success.

Detox Diet

Detoxing is all about ridding your body of not just toxins, but undigested food and stuff that is hanging around, usually in your colon. There are various means of achieving this, but one of the most people friendly ways is though your diet.

In this sense, any diet that causes your digestive system to work towards eliminating any unwanted matter from your digestive tract can be labeled as a detox diet.

A detox diet plan then, is one that makes use of a diet designed to detoxify your body whilst eliminating all the bad stuff including whatever toxins have built up also.

Simple Detoxification

The simplest form of detox diet is literally one that involves abstinence from all food for a period of time and only drinking plain water. This is also known as fasting (or water fasting) and is an integral part of many Eastern religions, where one day a week is set aside for a fast.

This process gives the body a chance to remove all unwanted food from the digestive tract without a load more being piled on top!

The next best thing to fasting is to only eat fresh fruits and certain vegetables for a period of at least 24 hours, but longer is better as the detoxing process takes longer. This can be boosted by drinking green tea along with plain water during that period, as this provides plenty of detoxifying antioxidants to mop up the free radicals that cause cell damage.

The process also boosts the metabolism leading to weight loss, so this is also a great way to lose some weight whilst giving your body's health a real lift.

Detoxing with Food

Propriety detox diet plans exist and should always be researched thoroughly before going on any of them. Often the best way to approach this is by visiting your nutritionist or dietitian who can advise you on a personal level on the best way of approaching a whole body detox.

It means you will have to forgo any treats such as cakes, candies, chocolates etc or you'll just be cheating yourself, whether anyone is looking or not!

Allison says:

I've used laxatives but for constipation purposes. I didn't know they could be used as a colon cleanser. Can anyone recommend them as I'd rather use them instead of the enema or the hydrotherapy?

Crystal says:

Constipation is a curse of our modern way of living. In rural Africa and Asia, where people eat high levels of fibre through vegetables, grains, beans and lentils, constipation related diseases such as appendicitis and colon cancer are rare. With our Western diets and lifestyles, a regular colon cleanse helps over come constipation. Without it, wastes stay in our bowels too long, allowing more time and opportunity for these toxins to be reabsorbed, causing all manner of problems.

Burton Haynes says:

Natural cleansing laxative teas contain strong ingredients, that when used improperly can have grave results, even death. Many dieters use laxative teas to lose weight. Just remember that in addition to water and other nutrients that you lose every time you ingest a laxative, you also lose important muscle matter, proteins and iron. Even when used sparingly, laxative teas can cause stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. Addiction to laxatives is a very real possibility even if you don't use it for weight loss. The body becomes accustomed to having the diuretic elements and won't be able to go without it.
