Avoid Live TV Weight Loss Programs

Here is another one of my Top 100 Weight Loss Tips, added to the series as article number 39.

In this particular article, I'll look at why you should avoid watching live TV weight loss shows if you want to keep your sanity while trying to shift those extra pounds from your waistline!

If there's one thing you should really never count on, that's live television programming, especially when they are supposed to be geared up for helping you lose weight. You know the kind of thing I mean.

Those shows that tell you to "stay tuned for our latest great exercise guru" like Jillian Michaels or Denise Austin who is going to show you their latest cool work out moves that will help you to shift that spare tire and look great.

Watching Television is a Bad Choice ot Pastime

Well, that's as may be, but what usually happens is that you will be put through all kinds of agonizing waiting around for the precious moment. You'll be dragged through endless commercial breaks, inane chatter by the show's host, guests and other paraphernalia before you get to the exercise guru him or herself.

Sure you may get lucky and get to learn some great new weight loss exercise stuff you hadn't tried before or get to watch a really great looking trainer showing you her moves. For instance, who wouldn't want to watch Jillian Michaels going through a great routine right there on the TV in front of you?

While it's important to keep stimulating your mind all the while your body is working away and exerting itself, you can waste too much time waiting on the appearance of your new mentor or favorite celebrity fitness instructor. The programming schedulers know full well that you'll wait and they'll milk it for all its worth.

Beware Commercial Breaks

They'll to make sure you watch as many commercials, TV show trailers and other garbage in the meantime as they can squeeze in. You can never really rely on anything the show's host says, so a few minutes can turn into half an hour or more.

What happens is instead of zoning out, you're going to find yourself absent-mindedly flipping between channels to avoid watching all the ads. And that is so going to make your time drag every bit as much as if you were not keeping yourself and your mind busy to begin with.

When you really sit down and think about it, you'll see that watching "live" TV is a really bad idea if you want to work out to an exercise or keep fit instructor. Get a pre-recorded program on DVD instead so you can watch the work out when you want, not when some ad-fuelled TV programming scheduler wants you to watch. Or you could always go out for a run or go to the gym...

Robor says:

Live TV weight loss programs are nearly all full of ads and they make you hang around too long. Too much time to be tempted to eat snacks while you blob out on the sofa I think. Thank you! I like to go on this blog every day!

Terry says:

It's the ads that tempt you to eat snacks, so this kind of thing is self serving and can put you in a really awful downward spiral to obesity. Like: eat snacks, gain weight, watch our program on how to lose it, watch ads, eat snacks, gain weight...
