Water the Weight Loss Wonder Product

When you look around at the dizzying array of different and sometimes expensive pills, supplements, diet plans and strange potions, you could almost be forgiven for wondering if there wasn't a simpler means of losing fat.

Well, there is and it's all in a simple glass of water!

water for weight lossAccording to a recent study, dieters who drink just two glasses of plain water before each meal tend to lose more pounds than the ones that only count their calories.

While many of the dieting supplements and drugs mess around with the body in some way, such as reducing its ability to absorb fat or artificially raising its metabolism, or even tinkering with the chemistry of the brain, a simple glass or two of plain, ordinary water works simply by filling up the stomach. Add to that the fact that water is also naturally calorie free, additive free, and comes straight out of your kitchen tap (or a bottle if you like).

Researchers in the U.S. compared the level of body mass loss among two groups of dieters. One who drank a little less than a pint of water before eating each meal and a second who just watched what food they ate.

At the annual conference of The American Chemical Society, it was announced that the tests, which lasted three months, found that those who managed to drink plenty of water each lost an average of 15.5 pounds, which was 5 pounds more than those who did not drink water.

According to researcher Dr Brenda Davy, of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University,

"People should drink more water and less sugary, high-calories drinks like soda. It's a simple way to facilitate weight management."

Fewer Calories

She similarly found in a previous study that people who drank more water typically ate between 75 and 90 fewer calories per meal. Taken over the course of a full day, this could add up to around 300 calories saved, which is the equivalent of eating a Danish pastry!

Davy adds that water's big secret is perfectly simple. If your stomach is filled with water, you feel fuller and so you will eat less food. That includes not leaving any room in there for fillers like bread or other high Glycemic carbs.

Soup and Stew

However, the British Nutrition Foundation believes that eating soups, stews and other water-rich foods are even better for your waistline than just water on its own.

Obesity expert Mike Lean, said:

"Fruit, vegetables and porridge also help fill the tummy with fewer calories, said the Glasgow University professor. But he warned that drinking large amounts of water over a short period of time can cause fits, swelling of the brain and even death."


So the message is clear. If you want to boost your efforts with the right weight loss strategy, drink a glass or two before each meal. You can also have a low calorie soup as a starter in a restaurant (and order a glass of water to accompany it!).

Pretty nice post on how to use water to lose weight. I just stumbled upon your blog and never really gave much thought to drinking water for any reason, let alone to help with weight loss! Time to quit drinking soda and make the switch to something far more healthy, I think. Thanks for opening my eyes!
